New Groups Coordinator
Board Appoints Tim Anstett
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Anstett as our new Groups Coordinator. Tim has served for many years in weekend and group leadership roles with Victories of the Heart and with other men's organizations. He is experienced as a nonprofit leader, a consultant to corporations, and a trainer in group dynamics. In his new role, Tim will be responsible for strengthening our personal growth groups through improvements in their process, their leadership training, and their communications with the organization.
In announcing Tim's appointment, board president Kurt Schultz emphasized that "with the recent hiring of Rick Simon and Tim's addition to our team as Groups Coordinator, VOH is well positioned to reach more men and to deepen their experience with our programs." Kurt added that "our goal is to continue building an organization which can sustain the impact envisioned by Buddy Portugal and Bob Mark when they founded it 23 years ago. Rick and Tim have the skills, vision, and energy to help make this possible." |
Continuing Ed Opportunities
New CEU Programs for Professionals
We have long known that many of our participants learn about our weekends through counselors, therapists, and other professionals. As a way of expressing appreciation to our referral sources and sharing our knowledge of men's concerns, we now offer continuing education opportunities for those with LCSW and LCPC licenses. These include:
Complementary Workshop, 3 CEU, September 12, 2008. This half-day program will address a topic of pertinence to men and psychotherapy. The workshop, which will include a continental breakfast, will be offered at no charge to licensed professionals. Further information will follow in the coming months.
BreakThrough Weekend For Men, Wisdom Years Weekend, 15 CEU, all 2008 Dates. Each of our two core weekend programs now offers men who are licensed professionals the opportunity to earn 15 continuing education units. During these weekends, therapists and counselors will be able both to experience and to observe the group, gestalt, and existential techniques that make these programs so powerful.
For additional information, please contact Rick Simon (rick.simon@victoriesoftheheart.net).

BreakThrough Weekend, April 25-27
Wisdom Years Weekend, May 2-4
Registration is now open for our spring weekend programs. The BreakThrough Weekend for Men will be held on April 27-29 at House in the Wood, Lake Delavan, Wisconsin. This transformative retreat helps men remove the inner blocks that stand between the lives they lead and the lives they seek.
On the weekend of May 2-4, The Wisdom Years program will be offered in two locations, one at the Grand Beach Inn in New Buffalo, Michigan and the other in the Boston area. The program invites men over the age of 50 to look at "the second half of adult life" with a new sense of passion, purpose, and excitement.
Fees are $690 for the BreakThrough and New Buffalo programs and $790 for the Boston weekend. Scholarships are available for all three. To register, please contact Peggy Cicero (312.604.5013peggy.cicero@victoriesoftheheart.net). |
Couples Workshop
Victories Forum Begins May 10
Reservations are now being taken for the Victories Forum, a series of half-day workshops on topics of interest to men and their families. The first, entitled The Challenge of Intimate Relationships: A Workshop for Couples, will be held from 9:00am to noon on May 10, 2008 at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick, Evanston, IL. This program, to be presented by Leo and Peggy Dhont of Dhont & Associates, will focus on helping couples strengthen their relationships through improved communications.
The cost is $20 per couple with no charge for Sustaining Members. To register, please contact Peggy Cicero (312.604.5013, peggy.cicero@victoriesoftheheart.net).
Additional Victories Forum programs include Retirement Wisdom: A Guide to Preparation and Planning on June 28; Parenting Smart from the Heart on September 6; Caring for Aging Parents: A Panel Discussion on September 27; and Men, Money & Relationships on November 8.
